Artigiani Della Terra
From the terracotta I engage myself in a long process of manipulation; versatile and fascinating, but unpredictable because you do not have the safety of the finished work …. just one certainty, a lot of work, because the whole Earth is low. (V. Goracci)
History of
our Laboratory
Always with his cigarette he starts to think about new shapes and new decorations, but above all he stays at the lathe, with his hands in the semi-damp earth, to shape it and give it the line that his thought imagines. Vincenzo Goracci was born in 1933 in Tuscany in a small farm in Ciliano in Torrita di Siena (SI). He moved and worked in Santa Margherita Ligure in the ceramic factory of Mr. Pinelli, at the same time he trained in Albissola to learn how to use the lathe by the teacher Eliseo Salino.
In 1959 he decided to open a small studio in Rapallo on the provincial road, just in front of the Church of San Rocco. This is the reason of the name of company San Rocco Laboratory and Ceramics San Rocco.
In the laboratory you can buy ceramic products such as: umbrella stand, panels, vases and decorated plates, there were shelves, a small oven, a lot of land, but there was also the Vincenzo’s lathe. Vincenzo together with Rina presents, for the first time in Italy, the technique of decoration, a relief or better the technique of “cuerda seca”, an innovation that has now been acquired by more artisans, but that originates from the study from our company.
Later the marriage with Luciana, the expansion of the family and the desire to return to the homeland, have created the conditions for reorganizing their laboratory in the land of Siena, in its Torrita di Siena.
A man who works with his hands is a worker; a man who works with his hands and his brain is a craftsman; but a man who works with his hands, his brain and his heart is an artist.
